Agrilife Today reports that starting on Sunday, livestock owners will need a prescription to purchase antibiotics for their animals. Livestock owners used to be able to go to their local feed store and buy certain antibiotics and administer the medicine themselves. No longer says the FDA. Many medicines had been already moved under veterinary care. But there were certain medically important antimicrobial drugs still on the shelf like injectables, infusions and large pills. Now, the drugs will carry caution labels stating a prescription is needed. Contact your vet if you have questions.
