Texas Parks want to take Fairfield Lake State Park

Although the Texas Parks and Wildlife Commission authorized the Department to buy Fairfield State Lake Park and adjoining acreage, they may have to take it through condemnation. A developer purchased the land from Vistra Energy to turn it into a high end resort. As of yesterday, the park had to close immediately. The TPWD’s lease ends Tue, June 13 and the commissioners want to decommission it. They will hold a special meeting at 10:30 a.m. Saturday to consider acquiring through condemnation the 5,000-acre property in Freestone County that includes Fairfield Lake and Fairfield Lake State Park.
