Edinburgh - New World Screwworm facility

Ribbon cutting on a new sterile fly dispersal facility in the Rio Grande Valley yesterday. Governor Greg Abbott and U.S. Secretary of Agriculture Brooke Rollins cut the ribbon. The facility is a critical step in Texas’s defense against the New World Screwworm and a direct investment in protecting the state’s livestock, wildlife, and food supply.  Abbott emphasized a Texas-sized, America First response—acting before the threat arrives, mobilizing state resources, and partnering with the Federal government to ensure the U.S. no longer relies on foreign facilities for protection against dangerous animal diseases. Secretary Rollins detailed the coordinated federal effort, including expanded sterile fly operations and enhanced border surveillance.
