Father's Day Founding

Sunday is Father’s Day, a day to honor one’s father. Although a form of honoring Fatherhood is recognized throughout the world, Sonora Smart Dodd is responsible for founding Father’s Day in America in 1910. LBJ signed a presidential proclamation in 1966 declaring the third Sunday of June to observe Father’s Day. In 1972, President Richard Nixon established the permanent national observance.
