First confirmed rabies case of the year reported in Kerr County. Last Thursday, Kerr County Animal Services received a report of a bat that had come into contact with a family pet at Four Bears Trail, south of Kerrville. The bat was tested and was positive for rabies. The bat did come into contact with the family dog which was vaccinated. The owner was notified of the protocol to follow which is to re-vaccinate and quarantine the animal for 45 days. Last Monday, another bat was found in Mountain Home on Byas Spring Road and was untestable so it has to be deemed a confirmed case.
