After 50 years, Southwest Airlines will end open seating and start assigning seats. The Texas based company’s research showed 80 percent of flyers prefer an assigned seat. Your seat won’t be assigned when you purchase your ticket. 24 hours before departure, you’ll check in for your seat placement. The new system starts in 2025.
