Texas Highway 46

After Bandera County Commissioners and Kendall County Commissioners each passed a resolution declaring Texas Highway 46 as totally inadequate to handle the volume of traffic between Hwy. 16 and IH 10 in Bandera and Kendall Counties.”  TXDot gave the Bandera Commissioners an update on what their plans are to improve safety on the 12 mile stretch. Bandera County Commissioner Troy Konvicka was not impressed with the presentation.  Konvicka said the plans focus on short-term fixes at various intersections.  Instead there should be plans to make 46 safer over the entire 12 miles. The road features numerous hills, blind curves, and limited shoulders. According to TxDOT data, more than 550 crashes have been reported along the dangerous corridor since 2016,  with 13 deaths and many serious injuries. Several of those fatalities were caused by head-on collisions.
