Texas - equine virus

Equine virus alarming horse owners in Texas. According to thehorse.com, the outbreak of equine herpesvirus-1 also known as EHV-1 has many owners looking for clear accurate information about the disease. 7 states including Texas have confirmed cases. The first cases in Texas stemmed from an event in Waco earlier this month. A thousand horses were competing in barrel racing events. Two thirds were from Texas. The Equine Disease Communication Center as of Monday is reporting 11 cases in Texas with 2 deaths. A few barrel racing events have been cancelled. Several horse arenas in South Texas have closed. Texas Agriculture Commissioner Sid Miller and the Texas Department of Agriculture issued a public alert.
