Governor Greg Abbott and the Texas Division of Emergency Management are reviewing a decision from FEMA not to grant individual assistance or hazard mitigation for counties affected by the July 2026 floods. They are in the process of appealing it, according to a statement from the governor’s office. Under federal guidelines, the state has 30 days from the date of the formal notification to submit additional supporting data and file an official appeal. Disaster recovery experts say FEMA individual assistance funds are critical for residents to cover short-term costs according to the Texas Tribune.
