Texas Ranger appointed as new Texas Department of Public Safety Director. The Public Safety Commission chose DPS Senior Deputy Director Freeman F. Martin, 56 to succeed Steven C. McGraw who announced his retirement in August. Martin takes over the position Sunday, December 1st. He will be sworn in Monday December 2nd in Austin at DPS Headquarters. He started as a Texas Highway Patrol Trooper in 1990 and becomes the first Texas Ranger to take over the position of Public Safety Director.
