Boerne Fire Department has a new Boltek Lightning Detection System gifted to them from A&M professor Tim Logan. It’s one of 2 in the state. It detects lightning before a lightning strike. It can be alerted about nearby thunderstorms and to detect high electric-field conditions which precede a first lightning strike. Logan is an atmospheric professor and director of a lightning mapping array network. The Lightning detection system will also be used for research regarding weather and lightning. Reports the Boerne Star.
