ERCOT can’t be sued over power grid failures says the Texas Supreme Court. The non-profit corporation qualifies as a sovereign entity which protects it from lawsuits. Chief Justice Nathan Hecht wrote in the majority opinion that ERCOT qualifies for immunity because it “provides an essential governmental service”. Thousands of lawsuits were filed against the entity for damages and deaths during the 2021 Winter storm. Reports the Texas Tribune.
