Gillespie Co Commissioners - Solid Waste Disposal ordinance

Gillespie County Commissioners approve an ordinance to prohibit solid waste disposal in the county according to the Standard Radio Post. The ordinance is to protect landowners having landfills or waste facilities built next to their property without their knowledge. The Texas Legislature in 2023 passed bills making solid waste permitting less restrictive than in other states. Eric McGee, counsel for the county said that if an entity wanted to build a landfill or solid waste facility would have to come before Commissioners Court. The ordinance also provides civil and criminal penalties for violating the ordinance, ranging from $500 to $10,000 a day.
