Gillespie Co - phone scam

Gillespie County Sheriff’s Office is warning Gillespie area citizens of a phone scam from someone claiming to be from the Sheriff’s office. They are asking for payment regarding various offenses like a ticket or a missed court date. The caller will ask for electronic payment like bitcoin or gift cards. Hang up and call GCSO to report the call. The sheriff’s office will never call a citizen to demand money. The call may appear legitimate as the scammers are spoofing law enforcement phone numbers.
