Kerr County Aggregate Production Operators (APOs) may have played a significant role in diminishing the impact of the July 4th flood according to Kerr County Commissioner Precinct 2, Rich Paces. Paces is also Chair of the APO Council. There are currently 12 aggregate mine sites. 8 active and 4 abandoned or inactive mines in Kerr County. Ten of the twelve aggregate mine sites are located along the Guadalupe River between Kerrville and Comfort in the eastern portion of the Guadalupe River basin. The gathering of information from various mine sites suggests that at least 3 billion gallons of water was diverted from the Guadalupe River into the mines, clearly lessening the flood impact downstream.
