Boerne city crews remove 200 tires from Boerne City Lake. According to myboernenews.com, the tires were placed in the 1980s to service as habitats for fish. Due to the drought, the tires were now partially buried in the dry lakebed. The tires were removed as part of the City’s Watershed Protection plan. The watershed plan was created to protect and restore water quality conditions within Upper Cibolo Creek which feeds the lake. The tires as fish habitats have been replaced by environmentally friendly steel fishing structures.
