Planned walkout by students at Fredericksburg ISD today raises disciplinary and safety concerns. The school district has issued a public statement about the reported event. “As a public school, State law prohibits us from supporting or oppressing any forms of political activism that disrupts the learning during the school day. Any student who leaves class or campus without authorization will face disciplinary action under our Student Code of Conduct. Participation in a walkout during instructional time will not be treated as protected or excused activity by the school district. There will be consequences for those who choose to leave class, refuse to follow staff direction, or disrupt the learning environment.” The district states that their focus is on student safety and learning.
