More Texas residents may qualify for food stamps. Governor Greg Abbot signed into law a bill lowering the threshold for families seeking food relief using the SNAP program. Texas is one of the few states that adds the value of family vehicles into the income equation of food stamp qualification. HB 1287 changed the value of a primary vehicle from 15 thousand dollars to 22 thousand 5 hundred and secondary vehicles from $4650 to $87 hundred. The new law takes effect September first.
