A new Texas Law prohibits animal abusers from owning a pet for 5 years. The law doesn’t prohibit animal abusers from living in homes with animals not owned by them. The animal possession ban or House Bill 598, applies to people convicted of being involved in dogfighting operations. The law also applies to those who hurt an assistance animal or are found to be cruel to a non-livestock animal under Texas penal code.
