The Texas Parks and Wildlife Department awards The Albert and Bessie Kronkosky State Natural Area $300,000. The money is for construction of 6 miles of recreational trail. Still under development, the 3,800 acre Pipe Creek reserve is home to several rare and endangered Hill Country species, such as the golden-cheeked warbler, alligator lizard, big-toothed maple, and more. The property is at Highway 46 West. The Kronkosky’s willed the land to the state of Texas to protect it from development.
