Misquoting U2, the rock band, Love didn’t come to town for Kerr County officials on Thursday. County officials received a dressing down regarding the response to the July 4th flood from The Senate and House Select Committees on Disaster Preparedness and Flooding. Lieutenant Governor Dan Patrick admonished Judge Rob Kelly for not being around to declare an emergency disaster. Kelly was at Lake Travis for the July 4th holiday. He did return to Kerr County as soon as he could. Dub Thomas, Emergency Management Coordinator was put on the defensive as he was on a day off and ill prior to the flood event. Thomas did come in as soon as he was informed about the flooding. Many county officials were put on the spot in regards to their slow response and mobilization to the flood and also a lack of decision on having an effective warning system on the river.
