A case of Malaria has been reported in Texas. It’s the first in 20 years. The significance is that the case occurred locally and not contracted from leaving the state. Malaria comes from mosquito bites. To deter the flying insects from breeding, reduce standing water and remove trash from the environment. Also, selectively apply pesticides in higher-risk areas. There is no vaccine for malaria.
