The Texas House and Senate have come to an agreement on lowering property taxes in the state. Senator Paul Bettencourt, the bill’s author said the deal would save the average homeowner an average of about 13 hundred dollars per year. It allocates about 12.6 billion dollars to reduce the school property tax rate. The bill also changes the homestead exemption from 40,000 to 100,000 dollars. There’s some extra relief included for seniors and property owners with disabilities. The bill is expected to pass this week and then on to the governor for signature.
