Uvalde mayor Don McLaughlin is resigning to run for the Texas House. McLaughlin has been Uvalde mayor since 2014. He’ll run for District 80’s seat held by Tracy King who is not running for re-election. Pleasanton Mayor Clint Powell will also vie for the seat. They want to flip District 80 which includes Uvalde from Democrat to Republican. Mayor McLaughlin faced scrutiny during the shooting at Robb Elementary in 2022. Reports the Texas Tribune.
